Drumming and Community
One of the wonderful things I have seen about bringing the healing drum around the country is the way the drum creates community. In order for us to be healing vessels in the world it is important to have a strong community. Just recently after a workshop on community drumming some of the participants decided they want to create a healing circle where once per month a group of practitioners and drummers get together and offer free healing treatments. My wife, Michelle and I have been facilitating such a group for the past seven years in the Portland, Vancouver area here in Washington State. This started out as the brainchild of Michelle who wanted to create a place for her reiki students to practice. It then evolved into a large circle involving 10 –20 practitioners and sometimes 70 people attending the circle! This is a powerful way to build community. We have developed a program to assist in the construction of these healing circles and have the desire to have them functioning throughout the country and eventually the world.
